National Harbor Provides the Perfect Destination for Solo Travel
Property experiences national trend of growing numbers of visitors traveling alone
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., Jan. 29, 2025—Washington, D.C. was recently rated the top city for “all by yourself adventures”, according to a study released by Kayak and Open Table. According to the study, 50% of Americans are expecting to travel alone this year and six in 10 will dine as a party of one. Kayak and Open Table found that solo travel is on the rise with a 38% increase in solo hotel room bookings since 2018.
National Harbor is minutes from D.C., just over the line in Maryland, and also accessible via water taxi from Virginia and DC. “Between our wide variety of hotels and dining experiences to the many activities and events. It’s a great destination for those traveling alone,” said Deborah Topcik, director of marketing at National Harbor.
In response to the report as well as the statistics that solo travel is quickly growing, National Harbor has created a dynamic travel itinerary and a video for solo travelers. For approximately $500 (plus tax and gratuities,) singles can have an activity-packed overnight experience. The itinerary includes overnight in a waterfront hotel, meals, a ride on The Capital Wheel (180-foot wheel with gondolas,) and other perks and tickets to events throughout the year.
“Single travel is growing at National Harbor, just as it has nationwide,” said Topcik. “We wanted to create an itinerary where singles could enjoy the many activities and amenities at National Harbor. There is so much available to see and do and visitors can opt for a day trip, an overnight, or a weekend getaway to feel rejuvenated.”
Solo travelers report that they prefer traveling alone as it allows them the flexibility to better see and experience places on their schedule. Some also report that traveling alone creates a sense of adventure.
