National Harbor Celebrates Dogs on National Dog Day, Aug. 26

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., Aug. 17, 2021—August 26 is National Dog Day and National Harbor is celebrating by highlighting its many dog-friendly venues and special activities.

The famous UniverSoul Circus is currently at National Harbor with daily performances through Sept. 4. On August 26, UniverSoul Circus’ dogs will be available for a demonstration, questions and answers and to visit with the public at National Harbor’s Waterfront Plaza (150 National Plaza.) Meet the famous dogs that were also featured on America’s Got Talent and their trainer at 11 a.m.

The Capital Wheel is allowing dogs to ride free with their person and with purchase of an adult ticket. Donate a can of dog food and get $5 off (limit 2 per transaction.) Flight Deck (below the Wheel will have Yappy Hour, doggie swag bags, treats for dogs and humans and beer specials.

Other locations throughout National Harbor that always welcome dogs include the Westin National Harbor that allows two pets up to 40 lbs. at $30 per night. A full dog set-up comes with it that includes a dog bowl, mat and a dog bed. The Westin also has an outdoor dining area that allows dogs. The Residence Inn National Harbor allows two pets of any size for $200 for the entire stay. The AC Hotel National Harbor allows one pet of any size and charges $100 per stay.

Boating in D.C. at National Harbor has a variety of boat options including hydrobikes, kayaks, paddleboards with paddleboard lessons available, swan and dragon pedal boats. Dogs are allowed on some of the boats. Boating in D.C. has some (limited) dog life jackets and recommends you might want to bring one if you have it.

Some of the retail outlets at National Harbor sell dog items as well. Carhartt has a number of dog blankets and coats.

Other nearby locations with dog activities include Glenn Dale Splash Park (11901 Glenn Dale Blvd., Glenn Dale, Md.) will hold a Doggie Dip in its main pool on Thursday, Sept. 9 from 6-8 p.m. and the Accokeek Foundation at Piscataway Park reminds dog owners that Piscataway Park (3400 Bryan Point Rd., Accokeek, Md.) is the perfect place to celebrate National Dog Day with miles of trails to explore along the Potomac River. Dogs must be leashed.
