McCormick & Schmick’s is the latest high-end restaurant to join National Harbor in Oxon Hill, with its opening set for Monday.

Jake, the seafood chain’s 800-pound, 8-foot-tall inflatable crab mascot, took its place atop the 300-seat McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside on Friday in preparation for the grand opening.

Named for owner Bill McCormick’s first restaurant in Portland, Ore., in 1972, the crab will be visible from the Wilson Bridge and to those flying into Reagan National Airport until June 23, according to company information. After that, it will be moved to another grand opening in Raleigh, N.C.

‘‘We’re so excited to be opening at National Harbor,” said Jill Collins, spokeswoman for the restaurant. ‘‘We hope people are looking forward to us with great enthusiasm.” Collins said the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore region is McCormick & Schmick’s largest market; the company has more than 80 locations around the country.

Each restaurant’s chef prepares his own menu based on what is prominent in the region and his own style, Collins said. Chef Robert Gelman will be handling the menu at the National Harbor location and plans to feature many Louisiana-themed recipes.

Chipp Lewis, who has managed restaurants throughout the Midwest, is general manager.

At Monday’s opening, a line of dignitaries will perform the restaurant’s traditional fish toss to deliver the first fresh fish to Gelman. Those attending can also donate to the Oxon Hill High School band’s trip to the Beijing Olympics, and McCormick & Schmick’s will match the donations.
